Miriam García promotes coastal regeneration

Santa Cruz de Tenerife successfully hosted the First International City 360º Conference, a forum that brought together urbanism and sustainability experts to discuss the present and future of sustainable urban development. Under the slogan "Present and Future Vision for Santa Cruz de Tenerife," the event was organized by the Santa Cruz City Council through the Santa Cruz Sostenible Foundation, with the support of the Cabildo de Tenerife, the Government of the Canary Islands, and the Moeve Foundation.

Among the notable participants was Miriam García García, an architect, landscape designer, and founding partner of LANDLAB. In the thematic block dedicated to Climate Change Adaptation, García shared her extensive experience in the regeneration of coastal environments from an ecological perspective, integrating criteria of resilience and territorial sustainability. His intervention emphasized the need to rethink urban-coastal edges as strategic spaces in response to the impacts of climate change.

The panel also featured speakers such as Jon Aguirre (Transversal Landscape), who addressed mitigation strategies from urban planning; Pedro Calaza, who highlighted green infrastructures and nature-based solutions; and Cecil Konijnendijk, co-founder of the Nature Based Solutions Institute, who introduced the "3-30-300" rule as a model to maximize the ecosystem benefits of urban renaturalization.

The day opened with a session on Sustainable Urban Planning, featuring figures such as Carlos Moreno, creator of the concept of "The 15-Minute City"; Margarita de Luxán, a pioneer in bioclimatic urbanism; and José María Ezquiaga, National Urbanism Award winner, who proposed a comprehensive review of the insular territorial model. The high attendance, both in-person and online, solidified the event as an international reference space. The city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife committed to making this event an annual appointment, reinforcing its role as a laboratory for urban innovation and sustainability. With this, it initiates a global conversation to build fairer, more resilient cities focused on the well-being of their inhabitants.
