The Institute of Catalan Studies awards the urban planning of the green axes of the Eixample

We are very happy about the recognition of the Premi Catalunya d'Urbanisme Manuel de Solà-Morales!
The jury of the 14th Catalonia Urbanism Prize Manel de Solà-Morales awards the projects "Green Axes-Superilla Barcelona" and the Special Urban Planning Plan for regulating the conditions for the implementation of wind farms in the municipality of La Jonquera. You can read the news here.
The jury has decided to award this prize ex aequo due to the diversity of form, context, and strategies for approaching the city and territory of the two projects most highly regarded during the deliberation. The jury wants to recognize the transformative capacity of a central urban area through an intervention strategy on the road system, at different scales, considering the effects on the social, environmental, and economic vectors of the city of Barcelona. Likewise, the jury particularly values the exercise of integrating into land use planning regulations the conditions for the proper integration and local implementation of wind farms.
Both works address, from public action, aspects subject to intense public debate, not without controversy. On the contrary, both works, with the evident differences in scope and approaches, highlight and decisively address the need to undertake physical transformations of space in order to achieve the goals of decarbonization and improvement of quality of life, starting from a local scale but with the intention of applying them to other scales.
The award ceremony will be on April 23rd at 5 PM at the IEC headquarters, located at Carrer del Carme 47.
