LANDLAB in the Debate on the Future of Forests, the Sea, and Cities.

On November 19 and 20, LANDLAB had the honor of participating in the conference “The Future of Forests, the Sea, and Cities”, organized by the Escola Europea d’Humanitats at the Palau Macaya in Barcelona. LANDLAB founding partner Miriam García joined nine experts from diverse disciplines and generations over two intensive afternoons to discuss the major challenges posed by the climate crisis to the natural and urban systems on which our survival depends.

The event focused on key topics such as global warming, altered rainfall patterns, intensified droughts and floods, soil erosion, land degradation, and biodiversity loss, with particular attention to the Mediterranean context. Discussions explored how these transformations impact water resources, agriculture, urban life, and society’s overall resilience.

Sessions covered desertification and land use, ecosystem responses to environmental change, biodiversity conservation, crop impacts and adaptation strategies, and territorial planning in the face of climate change. The conversations took an integrative approach, aiming to anticipate and mitigate the effects of global change.

In March, a dossier with the participants’ contributions will be published in issue 75 of La maleta de Portbou, and a 45-minute audiovisual summary will soon be shared at CaixaForum. LANDLAB will keep you updated on these publications.
