‘Stadtteilzentrum Züricher Straße’
Competition for residential development on a plot in Nuremberg, Germany

The competition seeks solutions for the complex situation of the 'Stadtteilzentrum Züricher Straße' site, which had to respond to a street with a front of high-rise blocks and an urban condition marked by the upcoming opening of a subway station. On the other hand, to the south, the residential scale of its lower suburban surroundings had to be maintained.
We propose to address both situations through the configuration of a unique fabric.
It is in the relationship with the open space where the fabric will determine its character: more urban towards Züricher Straße, a large square acts as an extension of the street and concentrates the facilities around the new metro exit. To the south, the square becomes a community green space, low-maintenance and with the potential for temporary appropriation by the neighbors.
Therefore, the quality of the open space will be the support not only for the construction but also for the multiple processes that will take place in the new neighborhood. 42 sheets describe the support, defines its rules, and its subsequent management. Its intention is to serve as a negotiation tool among the different stakeholders (between the public, promoters, and technical team).
