Miriam García, Founding Partner of LANDLAB, presents the Regenerative Urbanism methodology at the COAC in Girona.

We are aware that we are in a critical moment for our cities and territories. It is necessary to rethink past concepts and invent others capable of addressing, from a renewed and innovative perspective of urban and architectural practice, the great current challenges and crises: from climate change to geopolitical crises, including economic and social ones. This requires reimagining the practice of urban planning and urban design with new tools and methodologies that expand the known ones and invent the urbanism of the future.

In response to this, Paisaje Transversal and LANDLAB have developed the concept of regenerative urbanism, a working methodology that recognizes the city and territory as integrated systems, where it is not possible to act in an isolated or fragmented manner. This methodology proposes a new approach based on utopian pragmatism, capable of envisioning a better world and achieving it from the nearby and possible reality, with which to restore balance to the urban territory by designing systems that allow for its adaptation and transformation.

In this context, we have been able to develop and apply the concept of regenerative urbanism in an initial project such as Santander, Future Habitat, which defines the urban model for the Cantabrian capital with a view to 2055.

As a result of this theoretical and practical experience, the book Regenerative Urbanism is born, published by ACTAR and featuring spread design.
