Cogersa awards LANDLAB the drafting of the new Reuse Preparation Center

The delegated committee of the Consortium for Solid Waste Management in Asturias (Cogersa), chaired by the Director General of the Environment, Susana Madera, has awarded LANDLAB Laboratorio de Paisajes, S.L.P. the contract for drafting the preliminary design, basic design, and construction design, environmental documentation, and construction supervision of the future Preparation for Reuse (PxR) Center in Granda, Siero. The contract, worth €542,231 (VAT included), will have a total duration of 20 months.

The new facility will be dedicated to receiving waste such as textiles, electrical and electronic appliances, furniture, and household goods; preparing them for reuse; and subsequently selling them as second-hand products. In addition, the center will include a self-repair area and an educational space to promote responsible consumption and the circular economy.

With the capacity to process at least 4,000 tons of items collected from municipal pickups and recycling centers annually, the facility will extend the lifespan of materials thru repair and resale, while also offering training workshops, environmental education activities, and collaboration with third-sector social organizations.

The project also includes the restoration of an iconic building acquired by Cogersa for €1.8 million, incorporating sustainable solutions such as green roofs, facades made from recycled materials, and energy-efficiency systems. These actions are aligned with the objectives of the Spanish Government’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and could benefit from co-financing thru the European funds of the NextGenerationEU program.

Following this technical drafting phase, Cogersa plans to put the project out to tender in early 2026. The future infrastructure, with an estimated investment of over €10 million, represents an important step in the consortium’s commitment to a supramunicipal system for managing reusable waste, focused on furniture, appliances, textiles, and other household items.
