Landscape study for the Island Territorial Planning Plan
Preparation of the landscape study for the PIOT of the Island of Lanzarote

On the occasion of the review of the Island Land Use Plan (ILUP) of the island of Lanzarote, an analysis is conducted of the existing values on the island related to the opportunities that the new provisions of the plan offer for the landscape. Thus, the landscape was analyzed not as the negative of what has been built but as the very model of the island's configuration, its origin, structure, image, greatest economic asset, and its most hopeful future. The values are differentiated into tangible and intangible. Among the tangible values, ecological, historical, and productive values are identified, and among the intangible values, those linked to aesthetics, social use, spirituality, and symbolic-identity. The landscape management is based on these values, which offer a variety of intervention possibilities, opportunities for improvement, enhancement, and the creation of new landscapes.
