LANDLAB takes part in the third LIFE FloodProof meeting

The Old Town Hall of Lorquí hosted the third Monitoring Committee meeting of LIFE FloodProof, a project co-funded by the European Union that promotes solutions to improve flood resilience in the middle stretch of the Segura River basin.
LIFE FloodProof brings together municipalities such as Ceutí, Las Torres de Cotillas, Alguazas, and Lorquí, along with entities including the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia, the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, the Segura River Basin Authority, and technical teams such as LANDLAB and EuroVértice. The shared goal: to reduce urban vulnerability through local governance and applied knowledge.
During the session, key advances were presented, including the collection of historical and geomorphological data, updates to flood risk maps, identification of opportunities for green infrastructure, and analysis of European best practices. LANDLAB, together with project partners, also shared fieldwork results and proposals for urban planning improvements.
Progress was highlighted in local governance groups, citizen monitoring initiatives, and the development of an early and real-time hydrological warning system in collaboration with AEMET. Additionally, the Municipality of Alguazas presented its pilot action within the project.
The meeting marks the completion of the first cycle of governance sessions across participating municipalities, strengthening citizen participation and institutional commitment to flood risk management.
LIFE FloodProof is an initiative under the European Union’s LIFE Programme that promotes urban adaptation to flooding through multi-stakeholder cooperation, green infrastructure, and citizen engagement.
