LANDLAB has been awarded an Honourable Mention in the international Rákosrendező Masterplan – Urban and Public Space Design Competition, an ambitious initiative aimed at transforming one of the largest urban development areas in Budapest.

The competition, international in scope, seeks to define a new urban model for an extensive disused railway site, promoting a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient district capable of addressing contemporary challenges such as the climate crisis, housing, and mobility.

The proposal involving LANDLAB has been developed in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team including MCXVI Kft., Czirják Szabó Kft., StudioVlayStreeruwitz ZT-GmbH, 4D Tájépítész Iroda Kft., con.sens verkehrsplanung zt gmbh, and Mobil City Bt., consolidating an international partnership that integrates urban planning, architecture, landscape, and engineering.

The jury particularly highlighted the project’s landscape-driven approach, recognizing its ability to structure urban development through an integrated green and blue framework, capable of balancing nature and city while addressing the environmental challenges of the 21st century.

The Rákosrendező site, covering more than 200 hectares, represents a unique opportunity to redefine a new model of city based on principles such as sustainability, proximity, and high-quality public space, incorporating extensive networks of green areas and innovative ecological infrastructure solutions.

This recognition reinforces LANDLAB’s trajectory in landscape design and territorial planning, consolidating its commitment to projects that place climate resilience, ecological regeneration, and the quality of public space at the core of its practice.
