9th Meeting of the LIFE AdaptCalaMillor Working Group

Last Friday, 26 February, LANDLAB participated in the 9th Meeting of the Working Group of the LIFE AdaptCalaMillor project, held at the Auditori Sa Màniga in Cala Millor.
During this session, a series of participatory activities were carried out to identify and define the main environmental, technical, and social factors that will guide the beach’s future climate change adaptation strategy.
The discussion and exchange of views focused particularly on adaptation strategies linked to the setback of the current seafront promenade, proposed as a key measure to address the impacts of climate change and coastal erosion.
Specifically, considering the risks associated with maintaining the current situation under the 2050 and 2100 scenarios, different alternatives were examined. On the one hand, a setback strategy incorporating vegetated topographies and the restoration of the coastal lagoon; on the other, a setback proposal based on the creation of a promenade-berm structure. Both options were assessed from environmental, functional, and social perspectives.
The LIFE AdaptCalaMillor project is now in its final phase. Over the coming year, LANDLAB will develop the adaptation strategy resulting from the participatory governance process, which is set to conclude in the coming months.
