With the cessation of mining activity, Teruel´s northern outskirts today present a desolate image, like a field after battle. The result, if we analyse the city in its nearby landscape image, is that of an unbalanced metabolism (environmental, social and economic). This condition counteracts the strength and beauty of Teruel´s historic combination and shows the city´s lack of connection with its landscape structures.

This has been exactly the goal on which the Teruel City Council has focused through the LIFE+ Programme for the recovery of the clay quarries. It has also been the starting point for the proposals made by the University of Zaragoza´s School of Engineering and Architecture (EINA)
